Does Pine-Sol Keep Wasps Away? (the Facts)

Pine-Sol is a cleaning product, but it has more purposes.

Did you know that it can keep insects away? In this article, I will tell you everything about it.

Does Pine-Sol Keep Wasps Away?

Pine-Sol is effective in keeping wasps away, as these insects hate the scent of pine oil. To deter wasps, mix 80% of Pine-Sol, and 20% of water, and spray areas you want to keep free of wasps.

Pine-Soil is highly effective in deterring most insects. It doesn’t kill them, but keeps them away from your yard. If you don’t have Pin-Sol yet, you can buy it here on Amazon.

This method works, because Pin-Sol contains 8.75% of pine oil and eucalyptus scent. These 2 ingredients have a strong smell and repel wasps that are nearby.

You just need to prepare a mixture, and you’re ready to go. Keep on reading to find out more information and to avoid mistakes when applying Pine-Soil and water.

How to Prepare Pine-Sol to Keep Away Wasps?

Here are the steps to prepare Pin-Sol wasp repellent.

  1. Prepare a spray bottle.
  2. Fill out the spray bottle with 80% of Pine-Sol, and 20% of water.
  3. Spray the area where you want to deter wasps from.

Preparing Pin-Sol mixture is easy, and you need only 2 ingredients. Some people prefer a 50:50 ratio of Pine-Sol and water, and some people find an 80:20 ratio more effective. Personally, for wasps, I recommend an 80:20 ratio, because it will have a stronger odor, and will work better than 50:50.

However, if it’s your first try, you can do a 50:50 ratio, and if it’s not effective, you can increase Pin-Sol intake to 70 or 80%.

When it comes to water, it doesn’t matter if it’s cold, lukewarm, or even hot. In all cases, it will work just fine.

How to Keep Wasps Away With Pine-Sol?

To keep wasps away with Pine-Sol, simply spray it somewhere in the area where you want to get rid of wasps.

If you want to keep wasps away from your garden, remember a few things. You can’t spray this mixture on your plants, because depending on the plant, it can damage the leaves and cause the plant to die. This product contains many chemical substances that are harmful not only to animals but also to plants, like sodium carbonate, and alcohol ethoxylates.

The best way to repel wasps is to spray some other surface, like:

  • Wall
  • Fence
  • Patio furniture
  • Garbage cans
  • Decorations

Don’t spray it on grass, either, because it can make your grass yellow. Also, remember not to use this spray around children, pets, on skin, or food. It should be treated as a chemical substance.

Also, Pine-Sol shouldn’t be used on marble, aluminum, or wood that has not been sealed, waxed, oiled, or visibly worn.

How Long Does Pine-Sol Smell Last?

Pine-Sol smell usually lasts up to 24 hours, but it depends on where you apply it, and in which ratio.

The mixture of Pine-Sol and water is not permanent. It deters wasps and insects, but for a limited time.

Usually, if you use 80% of Pine-Sol, and 20% of water, the smell will last longer. If this mixture is used indoors, for example at home, the smell might last even up to 24 hours.

However, if you repel wasps, you probably use Pine-Sol in your yard. Here there are many factors that usually shorten the time when Pine-Sol smells and works. If the weather is hot, and the sun is shining, it will cause Pine-Sol and water to evaporate more quickly. Usually, in such conditions, Pin-Sol smells for 8-12 hours.

Also, if there is rainfall, it will also fail Pine-Sol to smell. After rainfall, you might need to spray Pine-Sol with water again to see the results.

Pine-Sol will work best in your yard if it’s not too hot, which is no more than 77 °F (25 °C), not too sunny, and it’s not raining.

What Other Animals Does Pine-Sol Keep Away?

Pine-Sol also deters other animals that hate the smell of pine oil and eucalyptus. Besides wasps, Pine-Soil also works for:

  • Ants
  • Cockroaches
  • Flies
  • Mosquitos
  • Spiders
  • Bugs
  • Springtails
  • Fleas
  • Mice
  • Snakes

What are the Other Uses of Pine-Sol?

There are many other uses of Pine-Sol, for example:

Pet Pee Deterrent: If you have a dog or a cat, and it sprays in your house, you can easily unlearn your pet this behavior. Pets like to spray on their own urine because it contains ammonia. Also, other house cleaners contain ammonia, so your dog or cat will be more likely to spray in your house. Diluted Pine-Sol and water don’t have ammonia, so it doesn’t encourage pets to urinate.

Keep raccoons away: A 50:50 Pine-Sol and water solution sprayed on your garbage cans is a great way to stop raccoons from poking around in your trash. Moreover, it will repel flies and other insects.

Weed fighter: Spraying Pine-Sol mixed with water helps you fight weeds. It’s recommended to use it on young weeds to increase the chance of killing them. When applied to older weeds, it will probably not kill them, but make them brown, and stunt their growth.

What are the Other Ways You Can Keep Away Wasps?

Pine-Sol method isn’t the only one that you can use.

To keep wasps away, you can also mix a few drops of clove, geranium, and lemongrass oil with water and washing-up liquid.

It’s also effective to create a spray from peppermint oil, white vinegar, water, and washing-up liquid.

There are also a few plants in your yard that wasps don’t like. If you don’t grow spearmint, citronella, thyme, or wormwood, make sure to plant them in the next season.

Wasps traps that you can buy online, for example here on Amazon are also highly effective, as they allure, and trap wasps.

Also, to prevent wasps, make sure you close your garbage can. Always seal rubbish bags tightly shut, and ensure the lid of your outdoor trash can is fully closed
